pseudo-racism in class today...wow
Thursday, April 9, 2009 5:54 PM
soooooo this girl in class, when the prof asked what they had to say about hip-hop, she stated:

"i don't have anything positive to say...and i know that's wrong. i just don't understand it. i come from a fairly racist family, where everything hip-hop is referred to as "ghetto" and "the blackness". i know that it's beautiful..i'm just trying to understand."

you can't blame me for wanting to punch her in the face and then hug her for being so honest. today's most important lesson is that some people know that their value system is fucked up....and they don't know how to change it. it is all of our respective duties to get out there and EDUCATE. after she said that, i went into a pseudo-rant about how hip-hop is socially and politically motivated, and that there is a clear distinction between hip=hop and commercial, mainstream rap. they are not to be confused. hip-hop is about celebrating culture, progress, pinpointing issues in America as a whole, love, life...all while painting a painfully real picture of reality. i had to explain this to her without punching her, because "the blackness" REALLY set me off, lol.

i think i did pretty well. what do you think?
